What is the German Calibration Service (DKD)? In the system of the German Calibration Service (DKD), calibration laboratories of industrial enterprises, research institutes, technical authorities, and inspection bodies conduct calibrations. These labs are controlled and accredited by the accreditation body of the German Calibration Service.
What are DKD-calibrations? DKD-calibrations are carried out for measuring devices, reference materials and standards for measurement categories and ranges that were specified during the accreditation. The issued DKD-calibration certificates verify the metrological return to national or international norms, as required by the norm family DIN EN ISO 9000 and DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.
What does calibration mean? Calibration is the determination of the correlation between the stated values of a measuring device (measurement ranges / standards / value of a reference material) and the values defined by specific norms.
The calibration certficate contains the measurement and states the respective inaccuracy. It may be possible to make a statement whether or not a tolerance limit will be kept. The industry requires calibrations for example in order to be able to connect single parts that are produced in different locations, into one complex unit without any problems.
The prurpose of calibration Accurate and reliable measurements are a prerequisite for every industrial production providing top level quality. Among other things, measurement and testing devices are used for the quantitative determination of characteristics as well as for control, regulation and automation in production. Every device that is used for calibration (including devices for auxillary measurements, for example measuring ambient conditions) and has a significant impact on the accuracy and validity of the test result, calibration or the sampling, has to be calibrated prior to its initial operation.
